She enjoyed her weekly lunches and card games at the Senior Center and her "Ladies Lunch Bunch." Betty always said that her greatest accomplishment and what gave her the most pride were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In their retirement, Betty and Don enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening, and card playing. Every week Betty & Don baked 200 cinnamon rolls, 200 pies, 150 packages of pecan rolls, 200 packages of cookies, along with many other wonderful baked items and then sold them at Dubuque Farmers Market, where they were a favorite. Her kind and generous nature is evidenced by sharing her home with disadvantaged children from Mississippi and always delivering fresh bakery to people who were going through difficult times in their life.īetty worked as a school cook at Holy Ghost School where she was famous for her homemade bread, donuts, and cinnamon rolls.
